Entering marks

There are two ways into marks entry. Teachers use My Subjects and see only what they teach. Administrators use Marks Admin and see everything.

Teachers: My Subjects

Go to Academics → My Subjects.

Each row is one subject in one class. Select it to open the marks sheet for the active exam.

The sheet lists every student registered for that subject in that class, in admission number order, with a box for the mark.

1. Enter the mark for each student. Tab moves to the next student — much faster than the mouse for a class of forty.
2. Leave the box empty for a student who did not sit. Do not enter 0 unless they sat and scored nothing; a zero counts in the class mean and an empty box does not.
3. Select Save. The sheet saves as a whole, so save before leaving the page.

The sheet shows the maximum mark at the top. A mark above the maximum is rejected on save rather than silently accepted.

Once saved, the sheet shows as complete on the academics dashboard, which is how the head of academics tracks who still owes marks.

My Exams

Academics → My Exams lists the exams a teacher is involved in, as a way in when you would rather start from the exam than the subject.

Administrators: Marks Admin

Marks Admin opens an exam and lets you move across every subject and class in it. Use it to:

• Enter marks for a subject whose teacher is absent.
• Correct a mark after a remark or a query.
• Fill the last few gaps before generating reports.

Administrator entry is recorded against your account, so the audit trail shows who changed a mark and when. Prefer having the subject teacher correct their own sheet where that is practical.

After entry

The marks report is the check to run before analysis. Read down each subject column and look for:

• A blank column — a subject nobody entered.
• An improbable mean — usually a paper entered against the wrong maximum.
• Long runs of identical marks — often a copy-paste error.
• Zeros where students were absent — see above.

Fixing these now is far cheaper than after report cards have gone home.

Marks for CBC subjects

Competency-based subjects assessed by performance level rather than a score are entered through Assessment Rubrics, not here. A school running both will use both screens in the same term.
