Careers and school planning
Open careers.shuleone.co.ke. You do not need a school account to explore Careers.
Choose the right check (prepared for rollout)
Section titled “Choose the right check (prepared for rollout)”Start with the learner’s name, email and grade. Careers selects a different check for each stage:
| Grade | Check | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | My discovery check | Pictures and familiar activities to discuss with a parent or guardian. |
| 4–6 | My interests & exploration check | School-life situations, interests and activities to try. |
| 7–9 | Career & pathway check | Interests, experiences and possible senior-school pathways. |
| 10–12 | Career & further-study check | Subjects, practical experience and questions for further study. |
Grades 1–6 require a parent or guardian to complete the consent step. Not sure is a valid answer when the learner does not yet know; it is better than guessing. If the grade changes, Careers asks before clearing answers that belong to the old question set.
The result is guidance, not a test score, diagnosis or instruction to choose one career. Interests can change. Academic results, subject requirements, available combinations and current admission rules still need separate evidence.
Read a result carefully
Section titled “Read a result carefully”The report explains the patterns in the learner’s own answers, possible areas to explore and practical next steps. Primary reports are discovery activities rather than ranked careers or assigned pathways. Older learners see pathway or further-study questions appropriate to their stage.
Paid reports use a private link. Anyone who has that link may be able to open the report, so do not post it publicly or forward it unnecessarily. A delayed M-Pesa response is not the same as a failed payment: follow the status shown on the page and do not start a second payment while the first is pending or unknown.
Each Careers check costs KSh 500 in the matching release. The checkout verifies that expected amount when it starts the M-Pesa request; do not approve a prompt for a different amount.
Find verified senior schools (prepared for rollout)
Section titled “Find verified senior schools (prepared for rollout)”Choose School explorer in Careers. The explorer only displays school records published through the verified catalogue. It does not fill gaps with guessed schools or details.
Each published record identifies the school and shows the available verified details, which may include:
- official school code and location;
- ownership, gender and accommodation type;
- pathways and subject combinations;
- publisher, dataset version and when the record was last verified;
- confidence/review information and a link to the source.
Use the source link and verification date before relying on a detail. A verified record can still become out of date after schools or authorities change an offering. Missing information means ShuleOne has not published verified evidence for that field; it does not mean the school does not offer it.
If the catalogue is connected but no schools are shown, Careers says that no verified schools are published. That is not a complete list of Kenyan schools. The first software release intentionally starts without invented sample schools. Continue with the manual school guide and confirm choices with the school and the relevant official authority.
Make a balanced school plan (prepared for rollout)
Section titled “Make a balanced school plan (prepared for rollout)”Add up to 12 schools from the explorer. For each school, choose the planning label that best describes how your family wants to use it:
- Aspirational — a preferred option to investigate, with requirements that may be more demanding or still uncertain.
- Match — an option that appears to fit the learner’s present evidence and preferences and still needs confirmation.
- Safer — an additional realistic option to confirm, not a promise of admission.
These are labels chosen by you. ShuleOne does not calculate an admission probability, rank schools or submit an official application. A good plan includes alternatives and checks every school’s current pathway, subject combination, location, fees or other family constraints directly.
The plan is saved in that browser on that device, using a reduced copy of the selected school records. Remove one school when it is no longer being considered, or choose Clear this plan and confirm to remove the whole working list from that browser. On a shared device, clear the plan when you finish. Clearing all browser site data can also remove unfinished Careers work.
Continue into ShuleOne Learning (prepared for rollout)
Section titled “Continue into ShuleOne Learning (prepared for rollout)”Eligible secondary Careers reports can show Continue to Learning when independent learner registration is available. The link opens the independent sign-in or account-creation choice in the ShuleOne learner portal. The matching ShuleOne Connect release can complete the same flow when it opens a Connect handoff link. Sign in with an independent learner account, choose the learner profile, then confirm the revision starting point. After redemption, the result links to lessons and, from Grade 4, past papers.
The signed link is one-time, expires after 10 minutes and can be redeemed only for a profile owned by that independent account. It transfers the report’s grade and suggested pathway so ShuleOne can save focus subjects and next steps. It does not copy private answers, report scores or the saved school plan, and it cannot attach to a school student, parent or staff account. It does not create an admission decision.
When versions do not match
Section titled “When versions do not match”The Careers footer shows the web and API release identifiers. If the site says the catalogue is not connected, copy both identifiers when asking for help. The site deliberately keeps verified-directory tools unavailable when the API contract is older or cannot be read; it must not silently substitute unverified records.
You can still use the age-appropriate career check or manual school guide when those parts of the site are available. Do not interpret a compatibility message as an admission or assessment result.
